MathCounts

Registration for the 2023-2024 MathCounts Season is Closed.

MATHCOUNTS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that reaches students in grades 6-8 in all US states and territories with 3 extracurricular math programs. Hundreds of thousands of students participate in MathCounts programs or use its resources each year. The goal is to make learning math fun. MathCounts believes middle school years is a critical juncture when a love of math must be encouraged, and a fear of math must be overcome. Its programs build problem solving skills and positive attitudes about math, so students embrace challenges and expand their academic and career opportunities in the future.

MATHCOUNTS is amongst the most prestigious mathematics competitions for children in this age range.  To ensure they receive sufficient preparation, training, and practice to do well at the annual MATHCOUNTS chapter competition in February, 6th grade students should be prepared to commit a minimum of 1-2 hours per week to learn the mathematics material and practice the exercises.

    • All Floris 6th graders are eligible to participate.
    • MATHCOUNTS participants practice with their coaches every Friday morning from 8:00AM-9:00AM in the Floris Cafeteria

(Later in the season when the annual MATHCOUNTS competition grows closer, meetings might be held twice per week on Mondays AND Fridays).

    • MATHCOUNTS Kickoff meeting and first practice will be Friday September 22nd 08:00-09:00 in the Floris cafeteria.

The Floris MATHCOUNTS program has observed that student competitors tend to perform even better at the MATHCOUNTS competition when their parents/guardians volunteer to coach at some of the practices.  For more information, or to volunteer as an assistant coach, please contact florispta.mathcounts@gmail.com
