Registration to participate in the 2024 Floris Spelling Bee will begin in October.

The Floris PTA Spelling Committee is planning for another successful Spelling Bee program for the school year 2023-2024. Floris Elementary is proud to offer students an opportunity to exhibit their proficiency in the art of spelling and, just as importantly, vocabulary. The school Spelling Bee Champion will have the opportunity to advance to the Fairfax county regional competition. The regional winner will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee representing Fairfax County.
Please note that Scripps has introduced a vocabulary round and are continuing to emphasize the need to implement a minimum of one vocabulary round at school and county bees and spell-offs. Vocabulary has now become an equal factor in how far state representative’s advance at nationals.
We feel our students must begin to learn their vocabulary as well as the actual dynamics of spelling (rather than just simple rote word memorization).
Registered students will be provided with School Spelling List. More information is also available from Scripps at: www.spellingbee.com.
