What is FLL?

FIRST Lego League (FLL) is a STEM based robotics program for ages 6-16 from FIRST (A non-profit organization that promotes STEM & robotics for youth) and Lego. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a theme-based robotics challenge each season that is guided by mentors and coaches.

The program also emphasizes on FLL Core Values, which are values such as Teamwork, Inclusion etc. to be followed when participating in the program. Teams are evaluated and judged on their Core Values along with the robot & project areas.

Check out the FLL website for more details: https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/fll

FLL Explore or FLL Challenge?

FLL Explore is a non-competitive division for students in grades 2-4.  Teams will build and motorize a Explore Lego set and solve for a problem. The team model and poster will be presented at a FLL festival held during January-March.

FLL Challenge is a competitive division that requires 1) Robot building and programming with missions to be completed 2) Solving a Challenge Project related to the season theme. Teams will compete at a regional qualifier in Nov-Dec with a chance to move to the State level tournament. This division requires dedicated coaches and can get hectic as the tournament date gets near.

Support from Floris PTA:

The PTA will help form teams based on interest. The FLL Chair will provide guidance on registering teams, getting started and pointers along the way. Please register here if you are interested in joining a team. Note that the teams need to be run by parent coaches & mentors, so please indicate if you can coach a team as well. There should be 2 coaches per team.
